Welcome to the Battle Zone!

Eastern Elementary will be participating in the elementary Battle of the Books (eBOB) competition for Pitt County this year!

The purpose of the Battle of the Books program is to encourage reading by all students. Students, regardless of ability, are exposed to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature. Through the fun and excitement of the competition, students improve reading skills, mature in their choices of reading materials, and acquire a broader knowledge base.

The district eBOB competition will be held on March 31, 2011@ St. James UMC
(More information @ NCSLMA)

All students in grades 4-5 are invited to join this club, although only 12 students will earn a spot on the team that will compete at the district competition. Team members will be required to read books in addition to their regular school work (all count toward reading goals) and attend practices which will be held during school and, as the competition grows closer, after school.

Here is the required list of books for participants to read for the 2009-2010 competition (the Media Center will have a limited number of copies of all these books available to participants but, in case of short supply, they can also be found at the local public library):
